This is a very important first step. Your fiber must be grease free and clean of any vegetation, manure tags and other debris in order to produce the best yarn (or batts, roving or felt) possible. We use water temperatures of 180 degrees and a specially formulated biodegradable detergent.

Our carder is our joy, so much so that we have nicknamed her, Big Bertha! She is a 5 ton beauty and is a real workhorse. We can produce batts for felting or quilts and roving for spinning.

In preparation for spinning, the roving is processed further by the pin drafter. This is a fun step. While some blending can take place earlier in the process this is where we can get really creative.

Our spinning frame is a wonder! It can handle the longest and shortest fibers! After spinning, we can finish according to your specifications. We can return your yarn as 2, 3 or 4 ply in skeins or on cones. For, fun, we even tried 6 ply and it turned out beautifully! Let us know if you want something a little different.

Convert your less than prime fiber into sheets of felt. Best yet, we can make a continuous length of felt, 4 feet wide. You will discover so many uses! For example, make a jacket or vest, build a backyard yurt, create pillows, purses and hats, use as a weed barrier in the garden. . . .
